Making healthy food choices for myself and my family keeps getting more challenging. We struggle with each choice—is it healthy, where did it come from, how is it packaged? Now we have to worry about whether the seeds have been genetically modified. I must admit that I didn’t pay very close attention to this when it first hit the news—I was still working on the above choices and simply keeping three teenage boys fed. Now that I’m tuning in, I’m alarmed! We need to be paying attention. Laws are being passed that are allowing large corporations to change the foods we are eating, perhaps irreversibly, with effects we aren’t being told about. Anyone who is concerned or wants to learn more is invited to join us—the UU Church’s Green Sanctuary Committee, the Harvard Farmers’ Market, Harvard Local, and the Harvard Congregational Church—for a showing of The Future of Food, a film that gives insight into unlabeled, patented, and genetically modified food. We’ll share soup, the movie, and discussion March 18 at 7 p.m. in the UU Fellowship Building.
