I am writing in support of Democrat Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council in the upcoming state primary on Sept. 3. The Governor’s Council confirms our judges and Parole Board members. They also handle commutations and pardons.
Mara Dolan has 17 years’ experience as a public defender working across the commonwealth in our Juvenile, District, and Superior Courts. You might think that given their role in the selection of judges, extensive experience in the courts would be common in the resume of a Governor’s Council candidate. In fact, we have never had an experienced full-time public defender such as Dolan on the council.
Our district’s Governor’s Council primary race is a rematch between Dolan and an incumbent who has been in office for over 20 years. In 2022, Dolan outperformed her opponent in small dollar, individual donor fundraising, just as she has this year, but despite that significant grassroots support wasn’t able to prevail at the polls. This year, it is vital that Democrats tune in and turn out to elect Dolan if we want a perspective on the council that is badly needed and long overdue. Please join me in voting for Mara Dolan in the Democratic State Primary Sept. 3.
