Kirsten Wright is Harvard’s hope to restore a sense of community to our schools. My family moved to Harvard in 2006 because of the schools’ reputation for educational excellence. While various benchmarks and statistics continue to validate the strength of the core curricula, the degradation of the “process” itself is an issue of mounting concern that cannot be ignored.
Many factors have plagued our school community in our short tenure here—the teachers’ contract strike of 2006-2007, unfunded state mandates, tough economic times, and more. Harvard has endured these storms, but not without negative consequences to the administration’s ability to manage, the teachers’ ability to teach, and the students’ ability to learn. The resulting lack of cohesiveness within the school community and widening disconnect from our community at large is threatening the future effectiveness and excellence we hold so dear.
It is Kirsten’s integrity, experience, and passion for the process that will help bring about a restoration of trust necessary to move our schools forward. Kirsten has experience as a 23-year Harvard resident, 30 years as an educator, 19 years and counting with children in the Harvard school system, and 2 years on School Council. As Kirsten’s next-door neighbor and friend, I can attest to her impeccable character. Kirsten Wright’s self interest is the best interest of others; specifically our children and our community.
Kirsten is as committed to the decision-making process as to the decisions themselves. True to Kirsten’s other-centered character and inclusive leadership style, she will focus on collaboration and integrity on our town’s School Committee; will come to the table with an intent to dialogue rather than debate; endorse transparency rather than secrecy; seek to hold others and be held accountable within the school community and the community at large.
