Lyme and H1N1 awareness programs planned
Public Schools Nurse Colleen Nigzus told the board that the state Department of Public Health is concerned at the high incidence of the H1N1 flu seen in schools in the South that have just returned to session. Seeking to prevent such an outbreak locally, state authorities are urging preparation and strict monitoring for symptoms.
Chairman Tom Philippou invited Nigzus to expand the agenda of a planned Lyme disease forum by presenting information on H1N1 as well. Member Lorin Johnson will be handling the logistics of the combined agenda, adding Nigzus to the previously planned-for agenda with Kurt Hayes, founder of LymeLITE, and tick specialist Dr. Sam Telford.
