On Saturday, April 4, hundreds of contestants brought their best vocal performance to Mount Wachusett Community College in the first step to becoming “Teen Idol at the Mount,” a competition that will determine “the best teen vocal soloist in Central Massachusetts.” The singers ranged in age from 13 to 19 and sang songs in genres from pop to rock, country, gospel, classical, opera, and Broadway. Ashley Jordan of Harvard was selected as a “Top 20” finalist, and will compete for a spot as a semi-finalist in the overall competition at the college Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25, starting at 8 p.m. both nights, and Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Other performers in the “Top 20” are Damian Almazraawi of Worcester; Ethan Berube of Westminster; Kyle Carlson of Gardner; Pamela Chen of Northfield; Andrew Cooper of Holden; Meagan Dame of Fitchburg; Ben Hirsh of Sharon; Kaara McHugh of Gardner; Briana Manalo of Groton; Maggie Murphy of Lancaster; Katie Mulrain of Westborough; Jackie Murtha of Bolton; Anthony Pepi of Worcester; Marcus Provost of Winchendon; Danny Rodriguez of Baldwinville; Andrea Rutkowski of Fitchburg; Tyler Simahk of Ashburnham; Alyssa Surette of Bellingham; and Elizabeth Wall of Northborough.
The Grand Finale competition will take place Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Tickets go on sale at the Theatre at the Mount box office beginning Monday, April 13.
