Harvard Farmers’ Market benefit a big success

April 3, 2009

On March 14, 13 teams from many local towns including Harvard, Shirley, Ayer, Littleton, Westford, and Bolton competed in the first Harvard Farmers’ Market scavenger hunt and fundraiser. More than 65 people traveled in and around Harvard gathering items like green Jell-O and garden gnomes. They took photos, solved clues, kissed bartenders, and even milked cows in an effort to earn the greatest number of points and win the hunt.

In a demonstration of community strength and spirit, well over 100 people came together for the after-party at the Billiards Café in Ayer to show their support for local farmers and the earth. Scavenger hunt winners were announced at the party: first place went to the Sassy Shamrocks of Ayer; honorable mentions went to the Cutthroat Scallywags and the ShaZamRocks for their part in the shenanigans.

Supporters enjoyed live music and rounds of pool at the Café. There were more than 75 door prizes given away throughout the night—all generously donated by Harvard-owned businesses, nonprofits, and vendors of the Harvard Farmers’ Market.

The Harvard Farmers’ Market will open Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 to 1 p.m. in front of the elementary school. For more information, or if you would like to be involved, please visit www.harvardfarmersmarket.org.
