Bromfield’s downhill racers turn in strong results in second race of season

In last week’s contest, the Bromfield boys ski team got squeezed out of another win by two points: Newton South finished with 452 total points to Brom­field’s 450. Acton-Boxborough followed, with 449 points, and Westford ended the day at 437.

Coach Steve Rowse said, “We’re going to be in a dogfight with these other three teams the rest of the way, looks like.”

Individually, senior Ryan Parker was Bromfield’s top finisher, seventh overall, immediately followed by freshman Erik Johnson in eighth. Rounding out the point scorers for Bromfield boys varsity were freshman Sam Elkind in 12th place, senior Pasquale Eckert in 13th, and freshman Tucker Edwards in 16th; junior Josh Wright finished 33rd. For the junior varsity boys, sophomore Tyler von Loesecke was first finisher; his 30.96 time puts him 17th place overall.

For the varsity girls, five skiers gutted out a fourth-place finish with 416 points, behind runaway winner Acton-Boxborough at 461 points and a second-place tie between Chelmsford and Westford, 432 points.

For the second week in a row, freshman Jackie Sampson finished on the podium in third place overall, followed by sophomore Tory Sowizral in 13th, seventh-grader Sarah Rowse in 19th, sophomore Maggie Rooney in 25th, and seventh-grader Karina Edwards in 29th. For junior varsity girls, freshman Mary Egan was seventh, seventh-grader Jessica Williams 14th, and seventh-grader Lauren Masters 19th.
