Press to move to ‘The General’

January 30, 2009

Harvard Press co-owners Lisa Aciukewicz and Worth Robbins have announced that Harvard General Store owner and Press adviser Adam Horowitz will be taking an equity position in Harvard Press LLC. Robbins said that Horowitz brings to the table extensive business background, along with proven expertise and creativity.

“Adam has already demonstrated innovative ideas in reviving the General Store,” said Robbins. “And more importantly, he has shown a commitment to sustaining the institutions so important to the life of this town.”

In conjunction with the expansion in ownership, the Press office will move to the third floor of the General Store in the next few days. Since April 2007 the newspaper has operated in office space at 5 Littleton Road, at the rear of the residence of Erin and Danno Sullivan. In conversations with Horowitz in his role as an adviser, the idea of combining Harvard Press and General Store operations emerged, as both a cost-saving and a synergistic move.

Reached at his usual post at the General, Horowitz said, “The General Store and the Press are both vital resources in the life of Harvard. It just makes sense to put them together.”

Aciukewicz said, “We hate having to move. We love the space and the location, and we love the Sullivans. But we can’t ignore the business benefits of teaming up with Adam and Lyn.”

Asked for a reaction, Erin Sullivan said, “Danno and I will miss the Press as both good tenants and good neighbors. We look forward to continued involvement with the Press.”

Robbins said that this change, along with continued strong support from loyal subscribers and advertisers, will help the Press strengthen its financial position in the face of a challenging economy.
