Town to submit request for economic stimulus funds
Town Administrator Tim Bragan told the selectmen that he is currently preparing documents to request funds from the anticipated federal economic stimulus package. He explained that the town’s request would focus on funding for three possible projects: town center sewer construction, construction on Ayer Road, and water distribution upgrades. Bragan was quick to note that there were no guarantees that the town would actually receive funding; this phase is simply preparing the data to send to the state.
Volunteer Fair set for Feb. 7
Selectman Tim Clark announced that the second annual Volunteer Fair is planned for Saturday, Feb. 7, in Volunteers Hall at the library. Marie Sobalvarro will coordinate the event and will contact those who participated last year.
Town Caucus set for March 14
The selectmen set Saturday, March 14, as the date for the Town Caucus. This date was set in order to allow required time for petitions to be submitted, warrants to be signed, and ballots to be printed in time for the Annual Town Meeting, which is scheduled for May 2.
Town employees recognized for service
The selectmen recognized town employees for their years of service. Department of Public Works foreman Ronald Gilbert, Police Chief Ed Denmark, Police Sergeant Jim Babu, Police Officer Kimberly Murphy, and Police Officer Daniele Fortunato were recognized for five years of service. Town Assessor Angie Marrama, Assistant Treasurer and Collector Stephanie Gintner, Judith Veno of the library, and Police Department administrative assistant Susan Naylor were recognized for 10 years of service. DPW employee James Burrington and Police Sergeant John Coates were recognized for 20 years of service to the town.
Resignations accepted
The selectmen accepted the resignations of Scott Hayward from the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust and Alison Glass from the ambulance squad.
