In the past week, police made nine motor vehicle stops; four resulted in verbal warnings and five in written warnings. Officers also issued or renewed two firearms permits, dealt with a disabled vehicle, and responded to one false burglar alarm.
Tuesday, Nov. 28
At 11:37 a.m. an officer noticed a rental car parked near the old Oak Hill Observatory on Pinnacle Road. Because of previous trespassers there, the officer checked the building and found it secure. At 10:25 p.m. an officer spotted a light on in a shed belonging to the Department of Public Works; the officer checked the shed, found nothing amiss, and turned out the light.
Wednesday, Nov. 29
At 3:01 p.m. an officer took the co-clinician to perform a mental health evaluation; no further action was needed.
Thursday, Nov. 30
At 8:34 a.m. an officer found a Verizon crew working without a safety detail on Still River Road, creating a potential traffic hazard; the crew was reminded to notify police before starting a job. At 9:54 a.m. the DPW was asked to remove an animal carcass on Ayer Road. At 1:59 p.m. an Ayer Road resident called to report some debris, perhaps from a collision, at the end of their driveway. At 10:42 p.m. a 911 caller reported a crash on Interstate 495 southbound; state police had jurisdiction.
Friday, Dec. 1
At 6:12 a.m. a 911 caller reported an injured deer near the intersection of Ayer and Old Mill roads; an officer put down the deer. At 11:19 a.m. an officer checked on the well-being of someone in a parked car on conservation land near Oak Hill Road; the person was just sleeping, but was informed that staying there after dusk would be trespassing.
Saturday, Dec. 2
At 10 a.m. someone called about a dead Canada goose near a trail on conservation land near the intersection of Still River and West Bare Hill roads; the Mass. Environmental Police were notified. At 3:40 p.m. an East Bare Hill Road resident called with suspicions about a car that had pulled into the driveway; the driver had gone to the wrong address while trying to pick up a purchase made through Nextdoor. At 5:45 p.m. a caller reported a crash on Route 2 westbound; state police had jurisdiction.
Sunday, Dec. 3
At 8:15 a.m. a caller from Still River Depot Road reported a trailer parked at the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge; police found the trailer was for a maintenance crew working on the railroad tracks there. At 3:09 p.m. someone called to say cows were loose on Littleton County Road; the animals were returned to their owner.
Monday, Dec. 4
At 5:03 p.m. Ayer police requested help in finding a person wanted there, but police did not locate the person here. At 6:31 p.m. a DoorDash driver called for assistance after becoming stuck in a field on Littleton County Road while following GPS directions.
