This past weekend the Friends of Harvard Public Library held our annual book sale, its largest fundraiser of the year. I am happy to report that we exceeded the results of a record-breaking 2024 sale. The money raised supports kids’, teens’, and musical programming and museum passes, among other things that benefit all members of the community. These enrichment activities are funded separately from the town budget and our taxes.
We are most grateful to the many people who donated the thousands of books that made this sale possible. I also extend my heartfelt thanks to our volunteers who put in a massive amount of time and effort to organize and run the sale. Thanks, as well, to the hundreds of people who came in and bought the books, CDs, DVDs, and puzzles, in this tradition that goes back decades. We cannot raise our funds without you.
We appreciate the wonderful library staff and trustees for their support, even though we disrupt business-as-usual at the Harvard Public Library for these few weeks. Also, I’d like to give a shout-out to Sorrento’s for providing a great lunch for our volunteers. And, thank you to the Lions Club for use of their tables.
It is truly gratifying to see that even during these times of uncertainty a community-focused, good-spirited event that is a small part of what makes our town a great place to live, persists.
