Don Ludwig knew to delete his odiferous tweets from X after they were brought to our community’s attention. He also knew to resign as chair of the Select Board and to suspend his reelection campaign.
Why didn’t he also realize that he could no longer serve as a Select Board member in a town that contains women, Black people, and LGBTQ people—the same people he mocked on social media? He clearly violated our town’s code of conduct and was censured by the other Select Board members.
While Mr. Ludwig did apologize at the end of the March 4 Select Board meeting after being asked to do so, he stopped short of apologizing specifically for making sexist, racist, and anti-gay comments. Does he believe that they didn’t warrant his resignation from this board? Does he believe this controversy will blow over as people in our town forget about what he did?
Yes, it was wrong for Don Ludwig to say what he said in these tweets, and yes, this is why he should resign from the Select Board. No, this won’t blow over, and no, we won’t forget.
