Thank you for your recent story on Parker Charter, another example of our community’s commitment to educational excellence. With deep roots in Harvard, from its founding through to today’s leadership and student body, we can all be proud of how Parker continues to strengthen Harvard’s educational reputation.
For more than 30 years, Parker has been a model of public education innovation, guided by the 10 core principles highlighted in your article. Its structure cultivates a love of learning, intrinsic motivation, and interpersonal skills that prepare students not only for college and careers but also for the challenges of an increasingly AI-driven world.
I hope the Press will continue covering Parker’s forward-thinking approach, which includes:
- Mastery-based promotion built on critical thinking, collaborative inquiry, and reflection
- Student-led policies and restorative justice practices
- Phone-free school days
- State-championship level athletic achievement
- Teacher development through the New Teacher Collaborative and the Sizer Teachers Center.
Parker deserves recognition as a source of pride for Harvard, and as an example of an alternative public education opportunity we are fortunate to have in our community.
